Campaign Operations
Minimize

The main focus of the 62nd Fighting Falcons is flying in an ongoing, cooperative, campaign setting.  At each month's meeting, we advance the campaign progress and report on the results.

For our current operations using Falcon 4:Allied Force we have adopted an approach whereby we leave the enemy under AI control, but take direct control over all friendly air and (to a large extent) ground operations.  Our goal is to use as little AI as possible, and undertake all missions and roles personally.  To aid in this we have chosen Iron Fortress as the most compact of the Falcon 4 campaign settings.

To date we have limited AI air operations to AWACS and JSTARS, plus chopper recon flights, and the occasional BARCAP to cover things while we undertake longer-range strikes.

The reports from the meetings are available below.

April 2009 - China Dawn

The April meeting saw us fly through the wee hours of day 3, up to dawn.  Our troops continue to push up north along the east and west coasts, with another column pushing west along our northern border.

Intel determined that a number of enemy squadrons had relocated to new airbases to our north-west.

Our initial operation was on the west coast, to put two airbases there out of operation and provide support to our advanced troops.  Although the mission goals were acheived, a strong enemy response caught us by surprise as we egressed, and we lingered to engage them too long.  The result was significant losses.

For the second operation we switched to the east coast, again striking at an enemy airbase.  Multiple enemy Su and MiG flights were encountered, but cautious tactics proved effective, and not only did we complete the mission, but we also did not lose a single plane.

Meanwhile, our initial sortie on the west proved to have stirred up a honets nest, with more than ten enemy flights infesting the area.

The next two missions were fighter sweeps, aimed at whittling away at the edges of the enemy threat-cloud.  Results were mixed - significant enemy kills, but with more losses than we would have liked.

More details to follow soon!
